Performance Directions

Find yourself an easel.
Get yourself a board.
Bring your paint and stake out where.

Be local, but public.
On a cross-street or corner
make yourself en plein air.

Lay out your tools.
Prime the surface.
Gaze about at what surrounds you.

Take your time.
It could be a sign.
Your directions are only two.

1) On this painting, in all cap’s
render the words:
FOR WHICH IT STANDS

2) Paint for a while.
You might paint something more
or nothing else. It’s your plan.

Get into the work.
Reveal the words.
Show people passing by.

Document your position.
Clean your palette.
And then you decide…

where the work will go.

Interpreted by:
Michael Lazar and Marc Lewis
